Job Description

Overview The Manager, Logistics Design & Cold Chain will support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of global logistics design standards to help ensure product integrity across Alnylam’s end-to-end supply chain network. This role will contribute to packaging strategy, transportation lane design, temperature-controlled shipping requirements, and logistics risk mitigation in partnership with Global Logistics Operations, Quality, Validation, Clinical and Commercial Supply Chain, CMOs, 3PLs, and logistics service providers.This position will serve as a key operational and technical partner responsible for translating logistics design requirements into practical, scalable processes that support consistent, compliant, and reliable product movement. The role will focus on execution of defined logistics design initiatives, lane assessments, packaging and transportation standards, and continuous improvement opportunities across cold chain and broader temperature-sensitive logistics operations.This position is hybrid and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.Key ResponsibilitiesLogistics Design & Network GovernanceSupport the development and maintenance of global packaging and transportation strategies across various products, shipment types, and temperature profilesPartner with Packaging Engineering, Validation, Quality, and Operations to define lane routing, carrier selection, pack-out requirements, and lane design inputsFacilitate approval processes for packaging, validation and transportation configurations based on risk, performance and business needsIdentify and mitigate logistics risks (lane variability, disruptions, packaging performance) and define contingency strategiesStandards & ComplianceEstablish global standards for temperature control and environmental conditions across all shipment profilesEnsure alignment between packaging, validation, transportation strategy, and product requirements to maintain product integrityFacilitate the creation of logistics design policies, standards, and SOPs, and lead their implementation across assigned products, lanes, and logistics partnersEnsure compliance with GDP/GMP and regulatory requirements in partnership with Quality & ValidationPartner with internal teams and external providers to implement standardized logistics design practices across assigned products, lanes, or initiativesRisk Management Assess transportation and cold chain risks for assigned lanes, products, or logistics scenariosSupport the development of risk-based mitigation plans in partnership with Packaging Engineering, Validation, Quality, and Logistics OperationsMonitor lane and provider performance to identify potential product integrity or service reliability risksCross-Functional Execution & Partner EngagementServe as a logistics design and cold chain point of contact for assigned projects, lanes, or operational initiativesCollaborate with CMOs, 3PLs, logistics service providers, Quality, Validation, Manufacturing, Clinical Supply, Commercial Supply, and Trade ComplianceSupport cross-functional decision-making related to transportation design, packaging configuration, lane setup, and shipment readinessContinuous Improvement & InnovationIdentify opportunities to standardize and optimize logistics strategies across the global networkDrive improvements in service reliability, cost efficiency, and product protectionAnalyze shipment performance, lane data, excursion trends, and carrier performance to recommend improvementsEvaluate and implement innovative technologies and solutions that enhance logistics performance and visibilityQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Life Sciences, or a related disciplineMinimum 5 years of experience in logistics, cold chain, supply chain operations, packaging, transportation, or regulated distribution environmentsExperience supporting temperature-controlled logistics, packaging qualification, lane assessments, or product integrity programsStrong knowledge of GDP/GMP transportation requirements and regulated supply chain operationsProven ability to work cross-functionally with Quality, Validation, Operations, and external partnersStrong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence without direct authority.Ability to travel up to 20-25%, globally#LI-LJ1​ #LI-HybridU.S. Pay Range$122,400.00 - $165,000.00The pay range reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, and education.
